A masters is the first level of graduate coursework and can be obtained after you receive a bachelor’s degree. Earning a masters usually requires two years of full-time study, which amounts to 36 to 54 semester credits.

Aside from the distinguishing between microeconomics and macroeconomics, students who are studying economics must also learn the difference between positive economics and normative economics. The former deals with that which is, while the later deals with that which ought to be. Other distinguishing characteristics include economic theory and applied economics.

This Master programme is designed to meet the increasing demand for professionals with top quality skills in the private sector as well as in international organizations and the public sector, in Sweden and all over the world. The largest share of students who have specialized in Economics in G?teborg are working in the private sector, and many of them are working abroad. The Master of Science education implies an additional step compared to the bachelor education in economics. It provides both a deeper analytical education in general as well as better opportunities to specialize and achieve practically useful skills. In a knowledge-based society, a Bachelors Degree is often not sufficient to compete for the most attractive jobs, and to have a Masters Degree is rapidly becoming a necessity. The Master courses aim to impart deeper knowledge and understanding, including awareness about economic conditions and developing tendencies, thereby enabling you to apply economic theory as well as concrete empirical tools, including various software programmes, to critically analyze current problems. We offer specialization in Development Economics, Environmental Economics, Health Economics, Historical Economics and Industrial Economics, but you may tailor the programme in accordance with your own choice. Please note that students are selected based on GMAT or GRE General test score. -
